Featuring a novel design and unique shape,
the National Speed Skating Oval boasts innovation and breakthroughs in design concept, technical processes, materials, construction techniques, and other aspects.

The world’s largest cable net gymnasium roof

With a planar projection size of about 198×124 meters, the roof cable net structure of the National Speed Skating Oval, the world's largest stadium roof cable net, is made of high-vanadium closed cables manufactured in China, featuring a compact structure, flat surface, high anti-corrosion and bearing capacity. The 49 pairs of roof cables with a diameter of 64 mm in the east-west direction are load-bearing cables, while the 30 pairs with a diameter of 74 mm in the north-south direction are stabilizing cables. The total length of the cables is about 18,564 meters and weighs about 581 tons. They used far less steel in the roof structure while maintaining the same bearing capacity. The steel structure project of the National Speed Skating Oval has won the 13th Gold Award of China's Steel Structure and Annual Outstanding Engineering Award of Gold Award of China's Steel Structure.

Smart Venue

The construction and operation solution integrating the most advanced information technologies, the highest quality audience experience, and the most sophisticated management is applied in smart stadium construction. Focusing on a full ice surface design for long-term sustainable operations and construction highlights such as green, environmental protection, and a smart venue, a "Chinese plan" was developed, which features cutting-edge technologies and stands the test of history for the National Speed Skating Oval.

Low carbon venue

As the first speed skating oval that uses CO2 for direct evaporative refrigeration according to the standards of the Winter Olympics, this venue adopts a CO2 transcritical direct cooling ice-making system to give full play to the characteristics of CO2 and limit the temperature difference of the ice surface to no more than 0.5°C. CO2 refrigerant features an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0 and a global warming potential (GWP) of 1. Colorless, odorless, non-combustible, and non-flammable, CO2 refrigerant is one of the most environmental-friendly and sustainable refrigerants. The use of the refrigerant enhances the "Ice Ribbon" project's environmental footprint. While greatly reducing the damage to the environment, it can increase energy efficiency by more than 20% compared with traditional skating rinks, making it a model of energy conservation and environmental protection.

High technology curved curtain wall system

Outside the glass curtain walls of the National Speed Skating Oval, there are 22 colorful flying ice ribbons, which can demonstrate the speed and passion of speed skating events after the integrated nightscape lighting system is turned on. Starting from the second floor external facade, there is a high-tech curved curtain wall system, which is composed of 3,360 glass units, including 1,440 curved and 1,920 flat units. The total area of the curtain walls is about 18,462 square meters. The semi-tempered dual-ultra-white double-silver low-emission double-laminated hollow glasses, which consist of 4 pieces of 8 mm thick ultra-white curved arc semi-tempered heat-dipped glasses with a 12 mm thick hollow layer, are used in the glass panels of the curtain walls. The average length of each ice ribbon, which is printed with crystal clear ultra-white glass glaze, is about 620 meters. The total length of the ribbons is about 13,640 meters.
