As an event included in the Winter Olympic Games, the biathlon involves cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Athletes need to demonstrate rapid and accurate shooting techniques, excellent skiing skills, as well as endurance, explosive power, and stability during the competition.

Originating from Norwegian military training in Scandinavia, it evolved from the ski hunting of humans in ancient times.

In 1960, the sport was incorporated into the Olympic Games. It comes from the Greek word for "two tests", which are referred to as cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

With a total length of 1.5 kilometers, the outdoor tracks of the National Speed Skating Oval for the two sports have fully combined and utilized the garden landscape corridors.

John Aalberg, the designer of the tracks, has extensive experience in designing, managing, organizing, and operating large-scale Nordic sports venues and events.

He was responsible for the design, development, and operation of biathlon venues for Olympic and Paralympic Games in the US and Canada in 2002 and 2010.

He was also responsible for the venue design and operational organization of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 held in Oslo.

At the beginning of planning, he fully considered the sustainable use of the tracks and ensured the tracks could be used for both winter sports and roller skating in summer.
